“THE ELEPHANT WHISPERER” A BEST SELLER
Lawrence Anthony’s inspiring, new, true life adventure story, “The Elephant Whisperer,” is receiving superb reviews on Amazon.uk where it shot to number 12 on release.  The Elephant Whisperer will be released in Australia in August and the US and Canada on 10th November 2009.

SYNOPSIS & REVIEWS
When South African conservationist Lawrence Anthony was asked to accept a herd of ‘rogue’ elephants on his reserve, Thula Thula, his commonsense told him to refuse. But he was the herd’s last chance of survival - notorious escape artists, they would all be killed if Lawrence wouldn’t take them.

He agreed, but before arrangements for the move could be completed the animals broke out again and the matriarch and her baby were shot. The remaining elephants were traumatised and very angry. As soon as they arrived at Thula Thula they started planning their escape… into the waiting guns.
As Lawrence battled to create a bond with the elephants and save them from execution, he came to realise that they had a lot to teach him about love, loyalty and freedom. Set against the background of life on the reserve, with unforgettable characters and exotic wildlife, this is a delightful book that will appeal to animal lovers everywhere. - Publishers Description

‘Greenhouse’ Club to Sponsor TEO for Their 2nd Anniversary Celebration in NYC

The Earth Organization (TEO) is proud to announce that Greenhouse, the most environmentally attuned nightclub in New York City , has chosen to sponsor TEO at its charity fundraiser for their 2nd Anniversary Celebration in New York City.  Funds raised from the event will go towards TEO’s Gulf Oil Cleanup Campaign.

“The disastrous impacts of the chemicals that were used to sink the oil and mix it more thoroughly into the water are creating severe public health issues and tremendous damage to the marine life in many areas,” said Barbara Wiseman, International President of TEO. ” We are extremely appreciative of the Greenhouse’s support of our efforts to get real solutions implemented that will truly bring the Gulf waters back to their pre-spill condition.”   TEO is working to implement the current, state-of-the-art technology called “Bio-remediation,” which harnesses and enormously speeds up Mother Nature’s ability to repair and heal toxic waters and sites.

32 Million Dollars of Disinformation in The Gulf. Not on Our Watch!

The $32 million that BP has promised to spend on a massive PR campaign to help the seafood industry raise the public’s confidence in the safety of seafood (not, mind you, to actually make the seafood safe), is working.  I watched in disbelief, today, as 30 young college students wolfed down big plates of shrimp fettuccine in the cafeteria of the scientific research center where I’m staying this week. Our work with a senior scientist on the creation of a document to get out accurate information about the safety of seafood could not be more timely.

As the lead scientist from a large and prestigious university said in an email, “The current political climate is such that it is unsafe for any scientist to come out with test results that are contrary to the data being purveyed by [federal agencies].” You can understand why his name, the name of the university, and his comments will remain anonymous.

But there is a growing movement of independent scientists who have the courage to stand up and put out their own test results and findings regarding the safety of the seafood and the Gulf waters.  Just last week, Louisiana Environmental Action Network (LEAN) released laboratory test results from samplings they took from seafood, beaches and gulf waters.  The numbers are astonishingly bad.Steven Pedigo, a scientist from Texas, responded to the test results:

“In general, states require the level of any type of hydrocarbon, especially benzene, to be .05 micrograms per kilogram, (.05 mg/kg) or less, in order to be safe for human consumption. It appears that the FDA has not issued a benchmark for an acceptable level of hydrocarbons in sea food; however, by any measurement, the hydrocarbon levels in these test results [below] are off the charts and theses species had to be close to death.”

The Earth Organization Frequently Asked Questions

What is The Earth Organization’s Viewpoint?

The Earth Organization is an independent, international, non-profit organization, founded by world-renowned South African conservationist and explorer Lawrence Anthony. As a result of his extraordinary rescue initiative of the Baghdad Zoo at the beginning of the Iraqi War in 2003, he recognized that a new approach and new solutions were necessary to reverse the dwindling spiral of life on planet Earth.

Is The Earth Organization a political or secular organization?

The Earth Organization is an independent, non-partisan, non-religious, issue-oriented organization whose members come from all walks of life, from all cultures, races and religious backgrounds, all motivated by a common cause: to reverse the dwindling spiral of life on Earth and create a healthy habitable Planet on which all life flourishes and prospers.

Is Mankind an endangered species?

Look at the evidence for yourself. We are fouling the air we breathe, polluting the Earth, using our rivers and oceans as rubbish dumps and abusing other life forms as if there is no tomorrow. And then ask yourself the question - are these survival actions? Can we turn this around? Can we re-create a healthy Planet that we are proud of?

Of course we can, but we need to do it, and the only way we are going to do it, is by doing it. Being concerned about it, or thinking about it, is just not good enough any more. There is a lot at stake.

The Earth Organization is an honest effort, by a lot of good people all over the world, to really do something about it.

What is species depletion?

All life on Earth is placed into groupings based on similarities and differences in characteristics. Individuals with the same characteristics are called species. Many species are interdependent, meaning that life forms depend on other life forms for their own survival. Over billions of years, a delicate symbiotic relationship between species has evolved. It is this natural balance which allows life to survive in the way it does.

With toxic chemicals, pollution, and natural habitat destruction, a severe man-made disturbance to the natural balance of life on Earth is occurring. If Mankind’s operating basis does not change, it will continue to have a direct and ever-increasing negative impact on all life, including Man.

This interdependency of life forms is so important we have built it into our tag line to our logo:

THE EARTH ORGANIZATION

Because None Survive Alone

Does global warming exist and is it man made?

There are credible scientists on both sides of this issue. The Earth Organization is continually monitoring and assessing this situation and, when possible, provides a neutral forum for serious discussion between educated scientists involved in researching this issue. Irrespective of this debate, our atmosphere is not a refuse dump. Per statistics, significant headway is being made in many countries to cut down on the amount of air-borne pollution and we strongly support these initiatives.

Why Destroy?

There are a small percentage of people with antisocial tendencies who work to harm life. Such people will be purposefully destructive or irresponsibly uncaring in their attitude and actions to other life forms and to the Earth.

However, the great percentage of people who are not actively involved in taking some measure of responsibility for caring for other life forms and the Earth are primarily operating from a lack of knowledge about the symbiotic relationship of all of life and how what they do or don’t do does make a difference. They simply are not aware that their actions can have far-reaching destructive, or constructive, ramifications. It is these people to whom The Earth Organization is working to reach out, to help raise their awareness and knowledge of, and involvement in more creative living practices that enhance and support the long-term survival of all life.

What is The Earth Organization’s standpoint on hunting?

We do not support pleasure or trophy hunting if the only purpose is to kill. If responsible husbandry is used to maintain a proper balance and the animals are used as a food source, then we understand that hunters and the permits and licenses they pay have contributed enormously to the preservation and maintenance of many of our national parks and natural land and wildlife resources.

Can I make a donation to The Earth Organization?

One-time donations can be made on our website or by mailing a check or money order.

Are my donations or membership fees tax deductible?

The Earth Organization US is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and donations made to it are tax-deductible.

How do I become a member?

You can join online by clicking the “”Join Us”” icon, or by contacting The Earth Organization’s nearest office to you. Locate your nearest office by writing to us through the “”Contact Us”” page.

What is expected of me as a member?

Members take creative actions alone, or as part of a club or chapter, to enhance the survival of the plant and animal kingdoms and Earth itself. We are an action organization that believes that actions can always be taken to improve any situation, no matter how bad it is - and we are doing it.

Will you help? Will you give your valuable support?
